The First of Many

Hi. My name is Sonja. I'm going try this blogging thing and see where it goes. After all why not? That's what I'm doing with YouTube. Although on YouTube my channel's main focus is makeup, this blog will be an outlet for so much more. Today for example I'd like to talk about music. I listen to hip hop, rap, country, rock, (almost anything really) but I've always been especially partial to pop. As of late my attention has been focused on one particular artist. Two words: JESSIE J. She's got a killer voice, on a track or live. She also has a very unique way of playing with sound.
With the current popular mainstream artists right now, the way I see it is:

Lady Gaga
While she has undoubtedly some awesome songs, lately she seems TOO different; almost non-relate-able anymore, and a teeny bit preachy.

Katy Perry
We all know her songs are ridiculously catchy but for the most part they're usually all fluff.

Ke$ha
Just no. Britney is the only one who can get away with not singing live and without lip-syncing your basically screwed.

 Britney Spears
She is still, in my opinion, one of the greatest female pop artists of all time. But as much as I still love her music, her performances are sometimes lacking.

Nicki Minaj
I could listen to her music all day. BUT! I can't listen to her talk for more than a couple minutes before she gets under my skin. She comes off as trying too hard to prove she's different. Musically i think she is different. People have compared her to Lil'Kim who I'm not saying is better or worse than she is because I personally feel like they have two totally different rap styles. I do however think she is over doing it with her image.

Jessie J has a beautiful balance of the good qualities all these women have. Her music isn't comparable to others; she has a unique voice and sound. Her music has a message and yet it's still catchy. And her style is funky yet she seems so comfortable.

As of right now I am absolutely in love with the songs "Nobody's Perfect" and "Mama Knows Best". I hope her success continues and more artists like her emerge. Until then I'll be falling asleep to "Price Tag" playing in my head.

Goodnight.
